South Amboy 2025 Budget Referendum
January 22, 2025On March 11, 2025 the voters of South Amboy will have an opportunity to approve or disapprove a referendum of $35,657,000 proposed by the Board of Education. The referendum will be paid back over 30 years. It is estimated that the annual tax increase for an average assessed home value of $274,817 would be $474.48. The referendum would fund major projects, alterations, and improvements to the school buildings, including the addition of classrooms for the elementary school.
Meetings to further explain this project will be held at the Middle/High School on January 23rd, February 18th, and March 4th. As the Mayor of South Amboy I believe that it is my obligation to inform the voters of this proposed referendum because it will directly affect your taxes. Please, further your knowledge by attending at least one of these meetings and visiting the South Amboy Public Schools website. Read the referendum so that you can make an educated decision. https://www.sapublicschools.com/board-of-education/referendum
The City and the Board of Education are separate entities with their own budgets. The City has no control over the Board's decisions or budgets. And as such I, as Mayor, and the City Council will not endorse nor disapprove this referendum. That is up to you, the voters.
Sincerely,
Mayor Fred A. Henry
