The city’s school district – serving about 1,200 students in grades preK-12 – will be welcoming a new schools superintendent, Dr. Frederick D. Williams, on July 1.
Williams, who has served as the superintendent of the Middlesex Borough school district since July 2019, is replacing Jorge E. Diaz, who resigned at the end of March to become schools superintendent of the Middlesex County Vocational-Technical High Schools. Dr. Martin Gurczeski is overseeing the city schools during the three-month gap.
Williams, 49, said he was drawn to South Amboy because of the Board and community’s dedication to providing rigorous academic opportunities for scholars and the eagerness of educators to work one-on-one with students. He said the district is brimming with potential and is eager to expand programs and services wherever the budget allows.
